Outfit of the Week | Paddington 2 (2017, dir. by Paul King)
the most valuable nugget of information i received in the year 2022 was that the Paddington movies are sleeper bangers.
a co-worker of mine told me one wintery morning over a Zoom call that he had watched both Paddington and Paddington 2 while home with his family for the holidays. immediately upon viewing, he sat, simply stunned at the quality of the flicks that seemingly slid under his radar.
he wasn’t alone. i, too, had completely missed these movies. i would have never thought to watch them, if i am being honest, but SHAME ON ME.
they’re incredible, simply put. they’re heartwarming, beautifully shot, deeply creative, and vibrant in so many ways. if you need a true uplifter during these dark winter days, put on a pot of tea and set up a cozy Paddington double-feature. you won’t regret it.
spoiler alert: after watching both movies, you will immediately have the strong desire to call up all your loved ones and tell them how much you adore them. so, get ready for that intense feeling - you’ve been warned!
although both movies are delightful, i am going to focus on the second installment this week because, yes, i do believe that Paddington 2 belongs in the small (but mighty) collection of sequels that prove better than the originals.
this sequel begins where the first movie left off. Paddington has settled in with the adorable Brown family in their colorful London home. he is now well-known in the neighborhood and spends his days attempting various jobs that may suite a small, talkative bear (washing windows, cutting hair, etc.). but, it isn’t until he finds the perfect gift to send his Aunt Lucy for her birthday that the real mayhem begins.
poor wee lil’ Paddington heads to jail on a completely unfounded burglary charge.
Hugh Grant is the villain.
i will say no more! go watch it! your happiness in life depends on it!
this week is all about Mrs. Brown. she’s the matriarch of the Brown family and a downright feisty little thing! played by the lovable Sally Hawkins with soft empathy and care, she’s all bright tights and lots of layers!
her fashion is so fun throughout both movies - very colorful and playful. her career as a children’s book illustrator makes a lot of sense considering her wardrobe…as if she colored herself in with a slew of bright colored pencils.
the outfit this week consists of some extremely cute oxford heels, purple tights, a thick wool cape, chunky orange sweater, colorful striped scarf, and delightfully large straw tote bag with orange trim. we love it all. it’s so good.
bright tights are seriously so cool - i cannot stress this enough. they make a bland outfit gain some serious flave.
also, the shoes…i have to admit, the oxford pump style is NOT for me, but Mrs. Brown rocks ‘em. the woman likes a little heel with some flare! who can blame her.
i did get quite excited about these shoes for the newsletter because they were just begging me to go check out what Johnny Flueve is up to these days.
(John Fluevog, the fabulous shoe designer, to be precise)
i mean, look at these heels. this damn Canadian hasn’t skipped a beat since 1970!
anyways, this whole ‘fit’s super fun - we love the layers, we love the colors, we love a structured tote (perfect for hauling around a bunch of stuff and still keeping organized). what a concept!

Honorable Mention of the Week | Paddington being a certified boss at seeing the positive in any situation and making the most of his time in prison…showing all the inmates the deliciousness of marmalade and creating lots of new friendships that’ll surely last a lifetime!
it’s almost too wholesome to bear! ;)
Great stealer!
